There have been very credible threats by the U.S. and Israel -- essentially a U.S. client -- to attack Iran. There happens to be something called the UN Charter which says that -- in Article 2 -- the threat or use of force in international affairs is a crime. ';Threat or use of force.';





The whole world is aghast at this possibility. It would be monstrous. A leading British military historian, Correlli Barnett, wrote recently that if the U.S. does attack, or Israel does attack, it would be World War III. The attack on Iraq has been horrendous enough. Apart from devastating Iraq, the UN High Commission on Refugees reviewed the number of displaced people -- they estimate 4.2 million, over 2 million fled the country, another 2 million fleeing within the country. That is in addition to the numbers killed, which if you extrapolate from the last studies, are probably approaching a million.

You are correct in your statements about the possibility of attacking Iran and the devastating effects this action would have on the world. Of course, with the ousting of Saddam, Iran has become an extremely powerful force in the Middle East, and the Iraq and Iran are now becoming close allies. Iran's ethnic population is majority Shiite, as is Iraq's. The majority of Iran's citizens are Persian with a minority Sunni and Kurd groups. With the majority of Sunnis in the region, an attack on Iran by the U.S. or Israel would be a catastrophe of immense proportions for our country and our troops in harm's way. If we think the price of oil is exorbitant now, the explosive increase would cause an instant depression.If Bush or McCain Bomb Iran, What Effect would it have on Iran and the Middle East and the Price of Oil/Gas?
A little history and reality check. Iraq and Iran have never been friends, or have had positive relations. The Iran-Iraq issues trace back to the 12th Century AD and has been on and off since.

In modern times Iran-Iraq fought each other from 1980-1988. Iraq used chemical weapons (WMDs) against Iran. Wait, I thought Iraq had no WMDs?

If Israel wants to bomb the nuke facilities they could do it tomorrow. I doubt very highly that the Republicans will get involved during a presidential campaign. It would increase gas prices, and it would make them look bad. If they win the election it could happen.

This has been my biggest fear for a long time. That man who is in charge of Iran seems like he has a real hatred of the free world. Then all we have right now is the Bush and that isn't good either. Bush doesn't have the brains to pump gas. Iraq already said that they will side with Iran. They are so grateful to us for freeing them from the evil dictator. This will lead to ww 3 who knows when it will end, or how it might end. I think that mccain is such a war monger that he could get us in some really big trouble.

I bet BP, Exxon-Mobile, Chevron, etc... are all lobbying to invade Iran because then the price of Gas would go way up. Thus, more record profits for them.





I don't think there will ever be another World War, because when you involve technology and Nuclear Weapons its just a couple of buttons pushed and a couple of million people dead.
It WOULD be world war three, but with a twist.





Some military experts theorize that it would be more effective for Iran to retaliate through terrorist means. Those would be against ALL nations that align with their attackers.





Imagine a REAL war on terror (unlike Bush's theoretical war on terror) where there is a constant barrage of suicide attacks on a global scale against soft targets...AND...which the terrorists could easily justify to an inexhaustible supply of new jihad recruits.





THAT is the scenario for a war with Iran...not a quick and effective ';shock and awe'; campaign.
