Thereby increasing their profits for the summer so that they can exceed earings expectations? Is this the next step before another stimulus package? Will a tax holiday for gas users this summer allow the oil companies to raise their prices and make more?
yeaWill a tax holiday for gas users this summer allow the oil companies to raise their prices and make more?
The problem we are having with the price of gas is do the fact that the oil companies can not produce gas fast enough to keep up with the demand and the existing refineries are so old that they are inefficient (There hasn't been a refinery built in the last 30 years)
The oil companies make less than $0.50 a gallon, the rest goes to the government, marketers, and brokers.
If the price of gas goes higher, the oil companies do not make more money.
If you want to blame someone for the price of gas - look to the government who has prohibited the oil companies from bringing cheaper oil to market (drilling on US territory) and building new more efficient refineries.
Not that simple. Regardless of what you may have heard PRICES are alway driven by demand. The media and analyst will lead you to believe the oil companies are outright gouging us when what's really going on is false demand and growth in China and India.
The federal tax is only 18.5 cents. People haven't changed their habits with the price going from 2 dollars to almost 4 dollars. Gas stations will charge what people re willing to pay.
