What makes oil prices rise and fall..?

They said use less gas and the price would go down...it did'nt.We watched some stations raise prices for the memorial day weekend, and then back down on monday morning, with the same load of gas in the ground. What makes oil prices rise and fall..?
We are not the only market for gas. That only proves that we can't conserve our way out of this. We need to have our own supply. We buy most of our oil and gas from Canada, Mexico and Venezuela.

Gas is a commodity, so it's sold on the futures market and doesn't matter what is in the pumps. That gas was paid for before it went in the ground but has to replaced at current values. Just like the food on the shelves is priced based on current costs.

Supply and demand are have the largest impact on oil and gas. After that I would say the value of the currency for which it is purchased. Right now oil is sold based on the dollar and with the dollar losing 40% of it's buying power the last 2 years, it alone has added about $1.60 to $1.80 to current prices. Then throw taxes and regulation on top of that and that adds another $.65 to $1.00 to the price of fuel.

The way to get prices down would be to open up the currently 85% that is off limits to drilling, build new refineries and get rid of the Federal Reserve (cause of inflation). What makes oil prices rise and fall..?
what you are seeing is our firends the saudias are raising prices to us an that we're having to pay more they are not coming down and it keeps going up with the per barrel type. if we keep this up we'll just have to stop buying it from them they are mean and we're just learning but we already had figured theyw ould do this our so called friedns. but we're slowly going to another fuel and we have lots in reseve and have had for long periods of time that is why we bought oil and stuff but if they keep it up we'll stop it has to come to that and they will lose in the end cause we're the only ones with money and they know it but they are not thinking they arepaying attention to terrorists and stuff also.
