How high do oil and gasoline prices have to go before Americans say enough is enough?

I I think we are saying enough is enough... too bad the Liberals are not listening.. Oh wait they just dont care..How high do oil and gasoline prices have to go before Americans say enough is enough?
I remember reading, way back, that if gasoline hit $4.00 a gallon, we'd all start driving electric cars. I've been waiting for electric cars since 1970, when we celebrated the first Earth Day.

The oil companies killed the first electric cars, and GM destroyed them, but I think more Americans are getting SO fed up with Big Oil, Detroit, and America's politicians (both parties, really) that maybe we'll finally dump them for some REAL change, not empty rhetoric. How high do oil and gasoline prices have to go before Americans say enough is enough?
In his 1992 book ';Earth in the Balance';, Al Gore proposed taxing gas up to a price of $5 / gallon in order to force consumers to change their habits and consumption.

That was when gas was about $1.00.

But the money was to go to the federal government coffers, so it was ok. Now the money goes to wages, bonuses, pensions, 401(k)s, IRAs, mutual funds, stockholders, etc, and it's ';bad';.

And it's changing the consumers habits and consumption.

Except the wrong people are getting money. Evil investors and ordinary wage-earners are benefitting; not the saintly and pure congresspeople. How terrible!
Even with gas prices as high as they are, it's not the most I've ever paid for gas, so it's hard to say. While living in Japan, in 1994, gas was about $6.00 per gallon (150 yen per litre). It may have been even more expensive than that when the exchange rate fell to 70 yen per dollar. Like anyone else I don't like the current prices, but what are you gong to do? Getting mad isn't going to make the prices go down. Complaining won't have much effect either.
It was enough for me when it crossed the $3.00 a gallon line..it now costs me $100 to fill up my Chevy Z71 4x4 at the pump.

The ';experts'; are already proclaiming an oil doomsday by the end of the summer $200 a barrel, that would equate to $6.64 a gallon at the pumps.
When the American consumers buys less gasoline then the price will drop.

When the USA get serious about increasing domestic oil productiont he price will drop.

When American voters stop voting for anti-capitalist, environmental politicians the price will drop.
A generation ago Americans would have already taken to the streets in protest! The average citizen has become complacent with everything from contaminated food , corrupt politicians, shody goods from China that poison people and pets etc. Maybe they believe things will improve on their own! A good old fashion protest movement would help tremendously.. But I doubt that will happen.
Its pretty obvious Americans have already said its enough. Hybrid sales are breaking records! All we need to do now is convince all the environmentalists that oil prices are more important than cute fuzzy polar bears! McCain 08!!!
$5.00 I would imagine. Of course, many of us are saying enough is enough, it's just the fault of Washington and this Democratic Congress for not listening.
$5.99 a gallon.
Looking at the number of cars on the interstate I'd say they've got to go a lot higher before people balk heavily.
So what happens when we say enough is enough.
I'm ready to punch an arab already! I think if it goes up one more dollar America is going to lose it's cool on someone
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That plain enough for ya?
In parts of Europe, the prices are more than double what they are here... and they are not ready to give in yet.

And we (in general) have more money than they do... I think we can take for quite a bit!
