Why do people think that ANWR oil will lower gas prices?

Exxon will drill in ANWR when it becomes profitable to do so. Right now it is cheaper to get oil elsewhere. Why do people think that ANWR oil will lower gas prices?
Nothing will lower gas prices....

How many companies do you know go around lowering prices when EVERYONE is buying their product? Supply and demand tells you that when the demand exceeds supply, prices rise. But with oil, the demand rarely exceeds the supply so there is no balancing factor. Not to mention, supply is often manipulated....

The laws of supply and demand are not applicable to most natural resources.....hence why most natural resources are very heavily regulated.....and just about any product that is forced on people by laws (ie, insurance).

Funny, California tried to force the demand to go down by forcing auto manufacturers to produce more efficient vehicles....but Bush and Co slapped them down....now why would anyone do that? To save oil or a company? last I checked, GM sales didn't increase at all because of this. Why do people think that ANWR oil will lower gas prices?
Yes, it will lower gas prices by increasing the supply of crude. Not much lower, since environmental regulations have made it too expensive to build new refineries, but lower nonetheless.

And Exxon (or anyone else) isn't allowed to drill in ANWR...that's what the fuss is about.
High gas prices are not a result of supply/demand, there is plenty of supply already in inventory. The reason gas costs so many dollars is because the Fed Reserve (banks) have been rapidly inflating the currency. Oil hasn't changed, it's the dollar (Federal Reserve Note) which is rapidly becoming worth less.
