Sounds like you have asked a question based on a partial truth. Like any business I believe it makes sense for a company to produce a quantity of their product that the pubic will purchase. For instance why would a GM or Ford produce 500,000 vehicles if they project they can only sell 400,000? To do otherwise would be very poor business process.
It's not the oil companies, it's OPEC and I really don't think it's going to make a difference, gas prices are going down and I think they will stay that way.
If that's the case, maybe we actually do need intervention of the government in to their business since they would be holding the country hostage.
