How can the oil companies keep raising the gas prices and the Government can't stop them?

I know it is against the law to ';Price Fix'; but it is not against the law to ';Make profit';. If the oil companies agree that their prices will not be too far ahead or behind their competitors, why is that not ';Price Fixing';? They are all making hugh profits but the Government can't do anything about it because the oil companies have not broken any laws. Why doesn't the Government ';Wire Tap'; some of these oil companies and catch them with ';Price Fixing';? I know they can do wire tap because it goes on every day. Are the Government Representatives being bought off by the oil companies to stay out of the accounting books? Interesting thoughts have been going thru my head lately and I wonder if anyone else things the same?How can the oil companies keep raising the gas prices and the Government can't stop them?
First of all, I'm not sure you understand the difference between ';price fixing'; and ';making a profit';.

Price fixing is an agreement between competitors to set the price of a commodity at an artificially high level. There's NO evidence whatsoever that this is what is taking place with gas prices at the pump.

Gas prices are largely affected by the price per barrel of crude - which is fixed by the markets on an international level and NOT by the gas companies.

If you want to place blame on the high gas prices, look no further than the fact that NO NEW REFINERIES have been built in the last 20 years, thanks largely to the liberal tree-hugging conservationist environmental wackos, who have rammed environmental legislation down the throats of Americans, and which has resulted in the cost, location and actual building of a new refinery being so high it's prohibitive.

Meanwhile, gas demand has skyrocketed in the last two decades. Refineries are operating at peak capacity. Add into the mix that some of the refineries damaged by Katrina and Rita last year haven't returned to full production yet and you've got HIGH demand and LOW supply. From an economics standpoint, that means high fuel prices at the pumps.

Europeans have been paying MUCH higher prices at the pumps for years. Americans need to get over it. We live in a capitalist society, and oil companies are the ones who take the financial risk of importing/exporting/refining/distributin鈥?petroleum. It stands to reason that for shouldering that risk that they should (from a capitalist standpoint) be the ones to reap the profits to be made as a result of the risk.

If you don't like gas prices, drive less.How can the oil companies keep raising the gas prices and the Government can't stop them?
The American people are looking at the wrong outlet for help.

Here are some facts: When you spend money at the pump, the US government gets $0.45 for every dollar that you spend. The oil companies get an average of $.12 per dollar.

In this situation the government profits most because of terrifs and taxation. And the people are looking to the ';enemy'; for help. The government will never cease to tax oil. The price of oil is determined by OPEC. If we started determining our own price per barrel (IE, using our own resources) then maybe we could dictate the price at the pump. But until then, we have to depend on the Saudis to dictate our gas prices.
Are you kidding? The government, the oil companies and the Arab Nations are all in this together. Ok, here's a thought. Reports in the paper last week (April 23-29) stated that the higher prices for gas were a result of Iran saying that they were going to purposely withhold oil in order to drive up the price of gasoline. The article had a chart of buyers of Iranian oil. The USA was NOT a buyer! If the USA doesn't buy buy oil from Iran why would that make the price go up ??
Capitalism: money buys everything and everyone.

In this case, the government has been bought and staffed by oil companies. They even give OUR money to those same RICH companies (we subsidize those companies with tax breaks). I assume they really need it!?!?!????

What is the best hair cream/oil/serum for mixed, frizzy hair for everyday use in the Uk? Please display price.

under 拢10.What is the best hair cream/oil/serum for mixed, frizzy hair for everyday use in the Uk? Please display price.
I would try frizz ease by john freida for coarse hair. It comes in the dark purple bottle. Basically you ring out your hair after you get out of the shower, put the frizz ease in, and then style your hair as usual. If you were going to leave it curly I suggest this product called Curl Power- it comes in a small tub and it's gold and sparkly but of course you can't see that on your hair. It works great. If you are just going to blow dry it straight, get something like a spray from Thermasilk that protects your hair from the blow dryer. Make sure you use a diffuser to blow dry it since you want to make sure you keep as much moisture in that you can.What is the best hair cream/oil/serum for mixed, frizzy hair for everyday use in the Uk? Speaking from experience %26amp; having tried ALOT of products. I use Keracare. Mixed race hair can be difficult to find products for some ';white'; products are too light %26amp; Some ';black'; products too harsh.This is why im fond of Keracare it caters for the ';in between';

I know the prices are much cheaper in hair shops. I live in London so there are alot of ethnic hairshops...most cities have a selection depending on the area. They tend to be behind the counter, you may have to ask for them.

The following three are the best Cream/Oil %26amp; Serum I have used. I know they are all over 拢10 (in total) but they are so worth it.

Essential Oils for the Hair

Silken Seal (Serum)

Theres also a foam wrap set which i use when im straightening my hair. I apply some and then come my (damp) hair out completely I then blow dry it and it comes out perfectly (coming from someone who is obssesive about any little kink!!). I also use a straightener afterwards. Thats my little routine that works for me ;)

I know these products can be expensive but I suggest getting them gradually, like I did. You don't need to use alot of them. If you do buy them i suggest getting the Foaming wrap and then Essential Oil to begin with, im confident you'll like them.

Another range you might want to investigate is Paul Mitchell. You can get his products from Supercuts %26amp; some selected hairdressers. I use some of his products aswell.

Hope this helps ;)

Jaco's magic serum at only 拢2.99 a pop, now that's a bargain hon!!! X
The best one I've seen is Sunsilk, anyone out of the green range. I don't actually have frizzy hair, but my friend's sister uses it. Normally they're about 拢3-拢5 per product, but they have offers on most of the time. There's shampoo, conditioner and leave in cream.
i use Lee staffoed - protection from humidity. its in a pink can and is around 拢5. i use it all the time, as soon as anything hits my hair it curls but this stuff is great!
Try Luster's Pink Oil Moisturizing Lotion. It should be around $6.50 in the United States. (That's the small bottle).

Is George Bush to blame for 9/11, high oil prices, the Kennedy assasination, & hurricane Katrina?

I'm no fan of Bush, but blaming him for everything is sillyIs George Bush to blame for 9/11, high oil prices, the Kennedy assasination, %26amp; hurricane Katrina?
Well, lowering security at airports just prior to 9/11, ignoring the threat of terrorism, treating it as a joke, going on vvacation and refusing to read the reports, blocking anti-terrorism proposals and then going catatonic in front of a bunch of elementary school students seems, in retrospect, bad ideas.

Dismantaling FEMA, moving National Guard troops and equipent overseas where they can't defend the homeland, appointing friends with no experience to be in charge of homeland defense and having FEMA activily block aid from Katrina victions, also seems to be, in hindsight, a bad idea.

Taking Iraqi oil off of the market, threatening Iran and Venezuella, destabilizing the oil exporting areas, blocking conservation efforts and the search to find alternate sources of energy and purchasing oil for the strategic reserve when the prices are high appear, in retrospect, to be a bad idea.

I don't how Bush II could be responsible for the Kennedy assasination (unless you mean the ongoing Republican character assasination of Ted Kennedy), but some have believed for years that the CIA was responsible for JFK's assasination and Bush I was in the CIA at the time. This seems unlikely, but the other three examples you gave are pretty clearcut.

I heard a Conservative commentator say that the only reason why people think that Bush is a bad president is because all these things just happened to go wrong during his presidency. That is like me failing a test because I just happened to put down a bunch of wrong answers. Not my fault.

One should not blame Bush for everything, but one should blame him, and the Republicans, for the things that they have caused or have contributed to. They need to learn to take personal responsibility for their policy decisions and America needs to learn from the Republicans' mistakes.Is George Bush to blame for 9/11, high oil prices, the Kennedy assasination, %26amp; hurricane Katrina?
Bush would never kill anyone in the following ways unless they were terrorists who deserve it:

(1) third degree burns from fuel tank explosions on planes

(2) jumping from the twin towers

(3) having WTC rubble collapse on you.

He had nothing to do with the Kennedy assassination and why the hell would you blame him for a natural disaster. Hurricane Katrina was clearly driven by the Bermuda triangle which will wipe the entire east coast out in about 10-20 years.

Sure oil prices will be high but if you were smart enough to pass America's rigorous education system, you probably have a good job that will increase your pay as the per capita GDP changes.
He is not to blame for 9/11, he is to blame for losing sight of our objective, to get bin laden. The higher oil prices are a direct result of him pissing of the Arabs with his Iraq invasion.

Hurricane Katrina was also not his fault, just his weak and lackadaisical way he handled himself in the aftermath. As to Kennedy, we still don't know the whole truth about that assassination. His dad might know something, though.
I agree. In an honest assessment (and without going into lengthy analysis).

1. Some blame for not preventing it. His administration had about 7-8 months to detect the plot and neutralize it. Obviously they didn't. Blame can also be spread to the Clinton Administration for the same reason.

2. Indirectly. The conflict in Iraq may have contributed to instability, which causes prices to rise due to speculation.

3. No.

4. No, although he has to take some blame for the adminstration/FEMA's lackluster response to it.
YES ,

G.W. is a Fighter Jet Pilot and he taught the Terrorists how to FLY those jets that hit the Towers.

G.W. is from Texas so he controls the flow of every drop of oil in the World. ( didn't you ever watch that TV show DALLAS )

G.W. is from Texas and G.W. let Lee Harvey Oswald rest the rifle on his shoulder while Oswald shot Kennedy.

G.W. is from Texas , A next door neighbor to Louisiana and G.W. forced Mayor Nagins who had a 10 days warning of the storm not to prepare for it and G.W. forced Governor Blanco not to cooperate with the Federal Government so the Feds could send the National Guard in to Louisiana in a timely manner.

And if you get a flat tire on or car while you are driving on a Federal High Way that is G.W.'s fault to.
No, he's too stupid to have done any of that.

Karl Rove is to blame for 9/11. As the architect of disaster, he crippled the national command authority at the time that AlQ could have been crippled as it emerged from its cocoon. But instead of having a president who could act presidential, we had the disaster of a Blue Dress that was the Repiglican Gift From God.

High Oil Prices was set up by King George I. He's the one who been kissing Prince Bandar since they were knee-high to a jerboa. George II presided over a devolution of American wealth and significance that he neither intended nor comprehended.
Yes, it is silly to lay all the blame on him, but that's the job. You get all the grief. And think about it, you have almost 600 bozos in congress. That's too many people to remember. One is an easy number. Of course if people want to see the person they should blame they should just look in the mirror. After all, you vote, you don't vote, you're involved.
9/11: Certainly he is the number 1 villain, not OBL. Remember that George Bush Sr talked of a New World Order on 11th Sept, 1991 and on the first 11th Sept of George Bush Jr's Presidency and the 10th anniversary of George Bush Sr's speech the 9/11 happens. Is it a coincidence ? How many coincidences can you accept ?

High Oil Prices: He is part of the blame. USA has 2.5% of world's oil resources and 5% or world's population but consumes 25% of world's oil. Now what do you do when you have less oil ? Sell it cheaply ? No way. But that is what the administration does. Compare the oil prices in US with those in UK or Germany or France and you know what I am saying. They should have increased oil prices to the level of UK by social taxation and used the money for people-related projects or lower the personal taxes or customs duties, etc. This would have reduced the consumption of oil from the present level of 85 million barrels per day (equals the world's oil prodn. capacity of 85 million barrels per day and hence any small fear of dislocation affects the sentiments badly thus increasing the price of crude oil). Even if world oil consumption falls by 5%, the prices will nose-dive which is not in the interest of the present Bush administration which is predominantly run by Ex Oil executives.

Kennedy Assassination: George Bush (Sr) will have to answer the question - where was he on that day ? Was he not in Dallas ? Was he not working in the CIA as an agent ? Was CIA which he headed a decade later not responsible for JFK's murder ? Who is that George Bush whom Edgar Hoover of FBI referred to in his memos ? He has to answer these questions.

Hurricane Katrina: is the result of America's insatiable thirst for oil consumption which caused global warming that caused Katrina. While US would have saved the earth by increasing its oil prices, the response to Katrina was extremely bad. It showed the lack of sensitivity on the part of George Bush and his team.

A great lot of blame for the present state of affairs, violence, war, terrorism and economy are the results of Bush family. I have no doubt about it.
In just 16 months.. Remember the election in 2006?

Thought you might like to read the following:

A little over 16 MONTHS ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;

2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;

3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet;

2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;

3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);

4) American households have seen $2.3 tr illion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);

5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;

6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!
It would be great wouldn't it! But no he's not to blame for eveyrthing that is wrong.

He might have been able to stop 9/11 - who knows. The oil prices he helped to trigger through his policies. The dollar weakness is a lot of the problem with oil along with the problems he caused in the middle east. Alan Greenspan's monitary policies had a lot to do with it there and created a cascading effect that led to the oil problem along with housing. Kennedy - i don't think so. Hurricane Katrina - No but the aftermath - YES - he put the people in place that botched the whole thing.

The reason that everyone blames Bush is that he is a smarmy little weasel with an ingratiating smirk. He is involved with people that are as slimy as you can find. He was a spoiled rich kid, a failed business man who only made money because of his family's connections and the desire of people to use them. He was useless on the boards where he was a director. He was mixed up in shady business practices which were mildly investigated. What was left? Politics - where his family could buy what it wanted. Is he as stupid as he seems. Probably not but he is just a puppet for others that pull the strings for their own agenda. He goes along with it for his own gain so I don't know which makes him worse. The incoming string of candidates is no better with one exception and he doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of being elected. The bought and paid for news media makes sure of that.

He does deserve a lot of blame for things because HE (being the decider as he likes to call himself) can do what is right for this people of this country but HE CHOOSES NOT TO. He chooses to side with those that he is beholden to. He could expose all the lies and the treachery that is at play against the heart of America. HE CHOOSES NOT TO. As he himself says - If you're not with us then you're against us. He is not with most Americans (the polls prove it as well as the last major election) so he must be against us. The problem is then - what is he really for? I don't know if I want to really find out. Maybe all that land he has bought in Paraguay has the answer? Is he thinking of running to that non-extraditable, deep in the heart of South America, landlocked country at some point in the future?
You blame him for everything, liberals just condemn his policies and responses.

- OBL was not a high priority before 911, but Democrats do not blame 911 on Bush

- oil prices are influenced by Iraq war and current administration energy policy

- hurricane Katrina response was deplorable!

the rest is just silly smear attack.
I don't like Bushes.

My father-in-law is a Bush. He's an @$$.

Bush beans give me gas, and my dog too.

My mother-in-law is a Bush. She's an @$$ too.

I have Bushes growing around my garage and I hate it.

My wife is pregnant, so she can't trim the Bush. Dammit.

It's all GW's fault. Damned Bushes!
Well I dont think you can blame Bush for Katrina. That was a complete failure at ALL levels.....local, state, and federal.

Most of the blame lies on the shoulders of Nagin and Blanco.
Possibly for 9/11, definitely for high oil prices, no for Kennedy assassination and perhaps indirectly for Katrina since he seems to think the USA will be spared from global warming so refuses to take steps to help reduce it.
If you people would spend more time putting blame where blame is do, instead of trying to duck and dodge the blame with strawman arguments, something good just might happen once in a while.
Not Bush, or his daddy, they are just the puppets doing what they are told to do.It's the Illuminati, that are pulling the strings. Google ';Illuminati';, and see for yourself!
I dont think he is to blame for the kennedy assasination or hurricane Katrina, Afterall that is an act of nature that we can do nothing about... BUT as For 9-11 maybe ... High oil prices... Most def.
Don't think he is responsible for the Kennedy assasination..

Do you have info I'm not aware of...Heard his grandfather was a Nazi sympathizer though
It would appear so.

And I'm pretty sure he's responsible for the earth quake in China. Boy, he really dropped the ball there, didn't he?
Isn't it amazing...

...the man they called ';too stupid to be president'; is the exact same man they give credit to for the MOST ELABORATE conspiracy theories ever concocted?
It's funny how Clinton gets blamed for every single fart in history and the monkey boy is so innocent.

There is a sign on the presidents desk - ';The buck stops here';.
Leave out the assassination and there is no doubt that he made all of the other 3 things worse -

instead of helping to ease the damage and or suffering.
I'm not sure.. but he may have caused the Civil War.
Some guy on the street told me he ';DID'; the Titanic too.

He had proof! Pictures of him on board, his ticket, they even found a hat the same size as his.

My life now has purpose.
Yeah!! Don't forget slavery, the holocaust, the extinction of dinosaurs, volcanic eruptions..... Stupid liberals!
absolutely,

(just ask Michael Moore and George Sorros)

don't forget the disaster in myanmar
He's also responsible for all the dandelions in my yard and the pothole at the end of my street.
I have firm proof he also killed King Tut and order the Crucifixion of Jesus.
i have diabetes because of george bush.
No more than you and I are to blame. You are talking about stuff that is macroeconomicly influenced by world events and so much bigger than one person even if it is the most powerful person in the world.

When you hear War for Oil, you are talking to an ignorant person who has no clue about global eonomics.
no none of those

9/11 was Clinton

higher oil prices is to be blamed on the liberals in Congress.

I don't think Bush was alive for the Kennedy assassination.

Katrina was nature

  • Why wont Obama pressure oil companies to lower gas prices?

    Oil at only around $ 36 a barrel and around here were paying $1.99 a gallon. That's bull crap ! Lower gas is a help to us all . Big oil still paying off congress and screwing America.Why wont Obama pressure oil companies to lower gas prices?
    Now that there's a democrat in the White House, libs don't think the president can do anything about gas prices.

    Funny how that works.Why wont Obama pressure oil companies to lower gas prices?
    Which oil companies? The ones who pull crude oil out of the ground? The ones who ship it to refineries? The refiners? The ones who ship refined product to wholesale terminals? The terminal operators? The ones who truck product to gas stations and heating oil companies? The gasoline and heating oil retailers?

    And you do realize that about 50 cents per gallon comprises state and federal (and in some cases local) gasoline taxes, right? And that inefficiencies caused mainly by the hodge podge of seasonal and regional blends required to meet the various emissions standards, and the resulting shortage of local storage, are significant and avoidable drivers of geographic basis? Wait - you know what basis is, right?
    Because he can't. Besides he wants to tax it anyway. Say hello to artificially high $3.50/gallon prices again.
    There is an easy way to lower gas prices - remove federal and state taxes from the cost to consumer. It will cause gas prices to drop anywhere between 40-60 cents per gallon.
    The President has no effect on oil prices. Supply and demand and nothing else.
    Why isn't Obama doing anything about gas prices? They were lower during the last months under Bush. Obama's fault!
    Yesterday Obama reinstated the offshore drill ban. He actually cut off OUR oil companies!
    Beats the hell outta four.

    Oil? when will the price go down?

    New oil fields are being discovered all the time; Brazil just found a HUGE new field. Concerning the price with US oil, I'd say the price will fluctuate some, especially considering two new oil fields discovered in the Dakota's. These new fields and maybe even the addition of the ANWAR field will drive supply through the roof, thereby decreasing price. But, oil is a fossil fuel, and is finite by definition. So ultimately we'll end up paying thru the nose for the last few drops... although that won't be in any of our lifetimes..Oil? when will the price go down?
    when we all are on welfare.Oil? when will the price go down?
    When we tell the environmental radicals to go piss up a rope, build refineries, and drill for our own oil.
    It might go down a bit for a while... but it won't last. If we haven't reached peak oil production yet we will very soon. There will come a day in the next few years where oil prices will just keep going up and never come down, and there won't be enough to go around since we have already consumed half of all of the oil that will ever be consumed. I know that it doesn't sound too bad when I say that half of it is left, but we have to remember that we keep using more oil and if production goes down there will be massive, worldwide energy shortages.

    Have a nice day now!

    Edit: Pllt404: Unless you're assuming everyone here is going to die in the next decade or so, you are mistaken. We don't have to wait for ';the last few drops'; before a shortage becomes a major problem. It will be a problem as soon as oil production goes down during a year.
    soon.
    Probably never, if you are talking about a big fall.
    Probably when our government becomes smaller. We have too much government, but not enough brain power. I think we should all flood emails or faxes to senators, governors, and representatives telling them that we are all fed up with high prices no only on gas, but on food too.
    Probly never....people dont even take care of gas. i see young kids speeding in their cars like their life depended on it. It sucks, its like as much as you tell people to take care of gas and limit your trips and blah blah blah. they dont listen. i know you asked about oil, but im assuming that your saying this in reference to gas. might be wrong but hopefully they can start educating younger kids on certain things. I live in a border town in texas. It makes me so angry to see people from Mexico driving in their smokey cars with no insurance. a little out of the point of view but just a thought!!
    Never they have us right where they want us.
    January 2009.

    Anyone notice this week as oil prices trickled down that the media was trying to talk them up?

    for instance they keep talking about the russian invasiion and saying it should be causing oil to raiseAnyone notice this week as oil prices trickled down that the media was trying to talk them up?
    Yes I have noticed,they did the same with the war in Iraq. They love to talk about the bad but fail to mention the success the surge is and the soldiers that try and tell the good stories over there. Typical biased left media. Anyone notice this week as oil prices trickled down that the media was trying to talk them up?
    When the news out of Iraq was contradicting the media's defeatist agenda, the news immediately switched to the economy. When there is any improvements or the reports aren't rather dismal concerning the economy (such as the price of oil dropping) they will quickly switch to some other anti-conservative subject to whine about.
    Yea people tend to forget that people still aren't driving as much.

    Edit: ill leave you with some words of wisdom from Thomas Jefferson

    ';Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper.';

    ';I do not take a single newspaper, nor read one a month, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it.';

    Substitute that with news stations and you get the point.
    NO! but i sure as heck noticed that the price of food keeps going though the roof. when are the grocery stores gonna stop gouging people? over 4.00 for a gallon of milk, and a dozen eggs still 2.79 a dozen for the eggs i buy, unreal. makes me furious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    You think the media have the power to change oil prices? Based on what? People are consuming less gasoline in the US. That's a major reason for the drop. Supply and Demand 101.
    The two things that Barry O does not want to see right now are an economic recovery and a threat of war. The boys and girls in the popular media are just trying to help.
    They have to keep them high so the DNC can come in and save the day. Can you say Liberal agenda? I think you can.
    They were antagonizing it to go up, and the price would have kept dropping if it weren't for this situation (that battle).
    You are surprised by this? Liberal media.....
    yeah, i noticed. sad thing to sell out an entire country like that.

    Does anyone see our high oil prices and the influx of high end real estate in Dubai ~ see below?

    such as the Burj Towers said to be the world's tallest building, and now they are building the world's largest mall with the LARGEST INDOOR SNOWPARK in Dubai..and now today they uncover the plans for the 420 meter Shape Skyscraper that the units can actually move from or ';spin'; at slow rates.

    Is this the reason our gas prices are so high????????Does anyone see our high oil prices and the influx of high end real estate in Dubai ~ see below?
    I think that has been happening for ages with the wealth that have. All i know is that in the U.K. a US. gallon of diesel is approx. $11.00-$12.00 depending were to purchase.

    In Europe alone, the cost of living has rocketed. I travel to France and Spain quite frequently and general standards of living are dropping dramatically. I also think that there is worse to come. (Just thought I'd cheer all you folks up from over The Pond!)Does anyone see our high oil prices and the influx of high end real estate in Dubai ~ see below?
    Actually the oil prices from Dubai are expensive because they are estimated to run out of oil in the very near future. This is why they are spending so much money on attractions and and real estate. If they keep this trend up then they tourist attraction that they build from the money they get from oil will fuel their economy and they will not end up broke as a joke.

    So, I guess that is part of the reason that there oil costs so much, but if they were not going to run out soon then it would not cost as much. I hope that makes sense. It is 3 in the morning and I am not sure if anything I write is going to make sense.
